Subject: RE: Confused by 552/5.5.3 and Try Again
Well... the reason we are using ListNanny.net is because *I* am not an email "expert", and I was hoping that ListNanny IS.

It seems to me that the problem here is that the SMTP protocol says that a 500 series error is a permanent error, but some ISP's are "bending" or even changing those rules.

It is not practical to look at the "message" portion of the error because every ISP can put whatever message they want in there.

Now, just because one vendor has said that a 552/5.5.3 is a Soft Bounce does not necessarily mean that other vendors are not using that as a hard bounce, correct?

So again, I fear that my best bet is to go with a 3rd party email delivery company that has more knowledge than me (or ListNanny) and is correctly identifying the NDR's.

To post a code snippet, please enclose the code in

blocks. For example
EmailMessage = new EmailMessage();
m.To = "test@test.com";
* In order to reduce SPAM BOTS from harvesting email addresses, only the alias part of the email address will be shown.
For example: 'test@test.com' will become 'test@...'.

We are requiring the address, in case we would like to contact you privately about your situation. However, if you still don't feel comfortable submitting it, you can always use 'bob@example.com' ;-)
